Nelson Mandela was one of the most influential figures of the 20th century, renowned globally for his pivotal role in ending apartheid in South Africa and fostering reconciliation within a deeply divided nation. Born on July 18, 1918, in Mvezo—a small village in the Eastern Cape—Mandela was given the name 'Rolihlahla' at birth, which roughly translates to "mischievous" or "troublemaker."
